Consumer Advisory Group - Participation Policy

Dialysis AustraliaTM is focused and committed to keeping consumers at the heart of all that we do – to ultimately achieve better health outcomes for people living with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and requiring dialysis treatment. Central to this commitment is our pledge to genuinely engage with patients, staff, hospitals, Department of Health, State Health Ministries and other stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and throughout the process of developing all our programs and services.

About the Consumer Advisory Group

The Consumer Advisory Group will advise on best practice for consumer and community engagement and hold Dialysis AustraliaTM accountable to our obligation and commitment to follow through on the consumer engagement principles. This group is also a forum to provide consumer input to influence the work of Dialysis AustraliaTM.

The Consumer Advisory Group will:

  • Provide information and advice to Dialysis AustraliaTM including the Executive and Clinical Committees on strategies for implementing best practice methods for involving consumers as advisers in the organisation’s strategy and operations.
  • Provide information and advice to Dialysis AustraliaTM and the Executive and Clinical Committees on consumer needs and priorities, how to elicit them and how to best meet them.
  • Support the development of templates, plans, checklists and other resources for consumer participation and involvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate consumer engagement activities and the co-design of particular projects.
Criteria

All members, excluding Dialysis AustraliaTM staff, must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Eligible to work in Australia
  • Ability to commit to the time required for such an advisory group
  • Currently a Dialysis AustraliaTM consumer.

Desirable criteria:

  • Knowledge or experience in consumer issues around the use of alternative models of care
  • Ability to represent the perspectives and needs of a wide variety of consumers
  • Ability and confidence to constructively challenge the status quo and promote innovative thinking
  • Ability to engage constructively in a committee environment or willingness to learn.

Dialysis AustraliaTM will work to ensure a diverse range of people are appointed to the group.

Term of Appointment

Members will be appointed for a maximum of three years and are eligible for re-appointment for a maximum of two consecutive terms.

Meetings

Consumer Advisory Group participants will be encouraged to provide feedback on at least one occasion per year regarding Dialysis Australia’s operational process and workflows.
